LTER-Europe (the European Long-Term Ecosystem Research Network) Joins DataONE

LTER-Europe, the European regional sub-network of the global ILTER (International Long-Term Ecological Research Network) has joined DataONE as a Member Node. LTER-Europe helps to coordinate ILTER activities in Europe and represents European-level interests in ILTER. Over 450 sites holding extremely varied data are part of this network of 21 National LTER-Networks. Some sites have more than 100 years of data.

New Dashboard Provides Real Time Information on DataONE Exposed Content

Enhanced exposure for DataONE Member Nodes provides users with real time information on current data holdings within the DataONE network of repositories.

Released this month, the new ‘Member Node Dashboard’ shows the volume and number of data and metadata files discoverable through the DataONE network, in addition to charting file uploads across time. Additionally, a table of current, upcoming and replication nodes enables users to access individual Member Node statistics pages to explore the data metrics, including information on when newest content was added.

New Guide: How to Discover Requirements for Research Data Management Services

The Digital Curation Centre, in collaboration with DataONE, have released the latest publication in their series of How-to Guides: How to Discover Requirements for Research Data Management Services

Co-authored by DCC’s Angus Whyte and DataONE’s Suzie Allard, the guide provides an overview of the RDM service development context, and details methods used to plan, elicit, analyze, document and prioritize service users’ requirements.

The Gulf of Alaska Data Portal joins DataONE as a Member Node

DataONE is pleased to welcome the Gulf of Alaska Data Portal at the Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS) to its growing network of data repositories. The Gulf of Alaska Data Portal archives ecological and environmental observations arising from monitoring and field research in the Gulf of Alaska and in particular Prince William Sound and lower Cook Inlet. Many data sets are time series spanning multiple decades that continue through the present.

Dryad and DataONE Announce Enhanced Collaboration

The Dryad Data Repository and DataONE announce the next phase in their long-standing collaboration with the production release of the Dryad Member Node. Dryad joins 18 other DataONE Member Nodes and makes an important contribution to the breadth and diversity of Earth and environmental science data exposed through DataONE. DataONE (www.DataONE.org) now has over 147,000 data objects available for researchers.

Resources for Librarians

DataONE has recently launched a new area of the public website 'For Librarians'. As custodians of the scholarly record, and with well-established relationships to researchers within their institutions, DataONE recognizes the contribution of libraries and librarians as providers of discipline-specific expertise and research data management services. To support librarians in this role, DataONE has provided a Librarian Outreach Kit by way of introduction to some of the most relevant DataONE products, services and resources of value to institutional librarians.

The University of Kansas’ Biodiversity Institute joins DataONE as a Member Node

DataONE further extends the provision of biodiversity informatics, systematics and ecology and evolutionary biology data with the recent addition of the University of Kansas’ Biodiversity Institute (KUBI) Member Node. The KUBI brings its focus on biodiversity education, research, documentation and service to support DataONE’s vision to enable “researchers, educators, and the public to better understand and conserve life on earth and the environment that sustains it”.
