Conference on Public Participation in Scientific Research
August 4th and 5th, 2012 in Portland, Oregon
$30 with registration for ESA meeting, $95 for this event only
Citizen science. Volunteer monitoring. Community-based research. Crowd science. These are all forms of public participation in scientific research (PPSR) proliferating across astronomy, molecular biology, human and environmental health, ecology, and other disciplines. This conference, to be held in conjunction with the Ecological Society of America's annual meeting, will offer a forum for sharing insights across projects and fields of study and for discussing how to advance the field of PPSR itself. If you are invested in the future of this field, you should not miss this event!
To promote exchange of ideas the primary mode of presentations for this event will be posters.
A fantastic line-up of speakers, including Seth Cooper (FoldIt), Terry Root (Nobel Laureate, IPCC), Arfon Smith (Zooniverse), and Wallace J Nichols (Ocean Revolution), will provide fodder for conversations about the state of the field and where it is headed. The conference will culminate in an open meeting to explore strategies for large-scale collaborations to support and advance work across this field of practice, potentially through the development of an association.
We look forward to seeing you in Portland!
