The University of Illinois at Chicago continues its long-standing relationship with DataONE by offering replication services to the community.
The University Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) has been involved in the development and operations of DataONE since the early stages of the project, providing expertise in the areas of cyberinfrastructure, usability and assessment, program leadership, and information science. To further cement this relationship, UIC is now providing replication services to the DataONE community via its Member Node. One of DataONE’s primary goals is preservation and accessibility of content; DataONE Member Nodes can choose to replicate their content at another Member Node which serves as a replication target. UIC can now provide this important service by making other Member Nodes’ content persistently available in case of outages or failures at their home repositories. This preservation enables the reproducibility of science via access to original data, as well as enhancing the long-term data management objectives of the source repository. UIC's University Library demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the missions of science and the stewardship of our cultural heritage by providing this service to DataONE.

About DataONE: DataONE enables universal access to data and also aids researchers in fulfilling their need for data management and in providing secure and permanent access to their data. These needs are filled by offering the scientific community a suite of tools and training materials that cover all aspects of the data life-cycle; from data collection to management, analysis and publication.
About the UIC Library: the University of Illinois at Chicago
supports the teaching, research and service mission of the University. The Library considers their Member Node and the replication services it offers as part of its collaboration with and commitment to DataONE, and is one of several investments in digital preservation services. As such, it benefits both the UIC Library as well as the broader community of scholars and institutions responsible for stewarding our cultural heritage and scholarly information.
