DataONE welcomes the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON) as the 26th Member Node to join the federation. GLEON, an international grassroots network of people, lakes, and data, was founded in 2005. GLEON limnologists, ecologists, information technology experts, and engineers conduct innovative science by sharing and interpreting high-resolution sensor data to understand, predict, and communicate the role and response of lakes in a changing global... read more
The California Digital Libraries, PLOS, and DataONE are partners in Make Data Count (http://articlemetrics.github.io/MDC/), an NSF-funded project to design and develop metrics that track and measure data use, i.e. “data-level metrics” (DLMs). During the first phase of the project, we gathered information about the needs of researchers: How do they want to get credit for the data they produce? What do they want to know about how their data is... read more
We are pleased to announce that the Minnesota Population Center (MPC) joins DataONE as its 25th Member Node. MPC is initially exposing metadata from Terra Populus (TerraPop), with plans to add more data from the vast MPC corpus. TerraPop is a major project within the MPC funded by the National Science Foundation and is the second DataNet project to join the DataONE network as a Member Node, strengthening the collaborative relationships that exist across the DataNet federation.
DataONE is pleased to announce two new Member Nodes at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
DataONE, PLOS and the California Digital Library are partnered in a project to explore data level metrics (see: https://www.dataone.org/news/plos-cdl-and-dataone-join-forces-build-ince...). As part of this work, CDL is conducting a survey to investigate metrics for datasets. The aim is to learn what metrics of use and impact would be useful to researchers and repositories.

National Science Foundation Awards $15 million to Environmental Science Data Project
As with the proverbial canary carried by miners, birds serve as an indicator of the health of our environment. Many common species have experienced significant population declines within the last 40 years. Suggested causes include habitat loss and climate change, however to fully understand bird distribution relative to the... read more
The University of California Curation Center at the California Digital Library, in partnership with PLOS and DataONE, are pleased to announce the launch of a new project to develop data-level metrics. This project is funded by an EAGER grant from the National Science Foundation. The project, titled “Making Data Count: Developing a Data Metrics Pilot”, will result in a suite of metrics... read more
The DataONE ITK tool 'DataUp' is to merge with the University of California (UC) data sharing platform 'Dash'.
Dash is a UC-wide project to create a platform that allows researchers to easily describe, deposit and share their research data publicly. Because of the similar functionality to DataUp the two projects will merge enable better support for our users.

A new collaboration between the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and the Data Observation Network for Earth (DataONE) aims to support long-term persistence of the biodiversity data shared through the network.
GBIF Secretariat and DataONE have signed a memorandum of cooperation that includes plans for a pilot repository to archive datasets shared through GBIF, using the services built by DataONE.
