October 2nd 2012 - The University of California’s Digital Library (CDL) and its partners today launched DataUp, a free data management tool.
Researchers struggling to meet new data management requirements from funders, journals and their own institutions can now use the DataUp web application and a Microsoft Excel add-in to document and archive their tabular data.
“DataUp will change the way scientists do their work, making it easy for them to manage and preserve their... read more

As the earth and environmental sciences evolve to be more data-intensive, discovering, integrating and analyzing massive amounts of heterogeneous information becomes critical to enable researchers to address complex questions about our environment and our role within it. DataONE, the Data Observation Network for Earth, today released technology capable of providing researchers access to globally distributed, networked data from a single point of discovery.
Excited about data management and data sharing? Want to enthuse others with your infectious commitment to metadata?

Scientists laud the dogged commitment to all sorts of routine but mission-critical tasks – Pipetting? Please! – but have a hard time sitting still to talk about data management. We need to figure out how... read more

Registration is now open for the 2012 DataONE Users Group Meeting (DUG).
The DUG will be held July 15th-16th in Madison, Wisconsin and is being co-located with the ESIP Summer meeting.
The agenda for the meeting will focus on the achievements of DataONE leading up to, and following, public release. We will profile how DataONE tools and services meet the needs of the community at various stages of the data lifecycle.
DataONE is sponsoring a Data Management Short Course for junior researchers based on content from the DataONE education modules and the Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) short course materials. The goal of the short course is to encourage data literacy in junior researchers, to pilot the DataONE and ESIP teaching materials in a short course environment and to gain feedback from students on course content.
