News Report No. 4 (7 July 2011)
William Michener, Amber Budden, and Rebecca Koskela – University of New Mexico; Dave Vieglais – University of Kansas
DataONE continues to make significant progress through the spring and summer of 2011 and is on track to release the first public version of its cyberinfrastructure at the end of 2011. In addition, significant effort has focused on developing educational resources, including a Data Management Planning Online Tool that will soon be released by a consortium of partners including the California Digital Library, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Smithsonian Institution, University of Virginia Library, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Digital Curation Centre, and DataONE. We have much to report, so this newsletter focuses on the progress related to infrastructure development. The next upcoming newsletter will feature results of the DataONE Users Group meeting and additional activities of the Community Engagement Working Groups.
News Report No. 3 (25 March 2011) – Bill Michener, PI
Spring weather seems to be upon us. This past winter was an especially productive time for DataONE and there are many significant activities to report on including: cyberinfrastructure development, Working Groups, the new DataONE Users Group, and the DataONE External Advisory Board. Notably, DataONE underwent a critical 18-month review and passed with flying colors. The Review Panel had many good questions and suggestions for us to consider as we move forward as a project and as a member of the DataNet Federation of DataNet partners. Below, I summarize some of the recent progress and highlight some of the exciting activities on the short-term horizon.

“The first year of DataONE” News Report No. 2 (23 August 2010) – Bill Michener, PI
August 2010 marks the end of the first year of DataONE. This milestone is a good time to reflect on where we have been and where we are heading. There is much to report with respect to both the implementation of the cyberinfrastructure and community engagement via education and outreach.
