Microsoft Excel is a software package, included in the Microsoft Office Suite, that enables the creation of spreadsheets or forms, provides simple data comparison and analysis tools, and creates graphs. Data are captured in workbooks, which can be composed of a single or several sheets. Simple sort and filtering tools allow data to be queried.
Minitab 16 is commercial software for data analysis, graphing, and statistics. It is interactive and menu-driven, and users are guided through the data analysis process according to "assistant" dialog boxes. The software can be used to run basic statistics including parametric regression and analysis of variance, survival analysis, and a limited number of multivariate analysis.
RightField is an open-source tool for adding ontology term selection to Excel spreadsheets. RightField is used by a 'Template Creator' to create semantically aware Excel spreadsheet templates. The Excel templates are then reused by Scientists to collect and annotate their data; without any need to understand, or even be aware of, RightField or the ontologies used.
